Position: Host Parents for Foreign Kids

As an ICECB host parent, you’ll welcome foreign children aged 8–17 into your home, providing them with an authentic immersion in Bangladeshi culture. Your role involves sharing traditions, facilitating cultural activities, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. By hosting, you’ll help young visitors experience Bangladesh’s vibrant heritage while building lifelong connections, aligning with ICECB’s mission of “Learning Beyond Boundaries.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Introduce Bangladeshi Culture: Share traditions such as Bengali festivals (e.g., Pohela Boishakh), cuisine (e.g., pitha, biryani), and customs (e.g., hospitality practices) through everyday interactions.
  • Facilitate Language Exchange: Teach basic Bengali phrases and engage kids in conversations to enhance their cultural understanding.
  • Provide a Safe Home Environment: Offer a welcoming, secure space with meals and accommodation, ensuring kids feel at home.
  • Support Cross-Cultural Learning: Encourage dialogue about global cultures, fostering mutual respect between your family and the kids.
  • Collaborate with ICECB: Coordinate with program staff to align activities with ICECB’s cultural exchange goals, including reporting on kids’ experiences.

Qualifications

  • Reside in Dhaka or nearby areas with a safe, family-friendly home environment.
  • Passion for sharing Bangladeshi culture and traditions.
  • Basic English proficiency to communicate with foreign kids.
  • Ability to host children for short-term stays (7–15 days).
  • Experience hosting or working with children/youth.
  • Knowledge of cultural education or community engagement.
  • Familiarity with international cultures to facilitate reciprocal learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and openness to cultural diversity.
